One of the biggest mistakes employees make is acting like their current employer is their only option.
It isn’t.
If you’re thinking about leaving your company, look at its competitors. Find the same or similar position somewhere else and see what happens.
Why?
Because leverage changes the relationship.
Your employer shouldn’t be the only organization deciding whether you’re valuable. Another company might see something in you that your current employer doesn’t.
Sometimes you don’t realize your value until somebody else wants what you bring to the table.
That’s leverage.
You’re not begging one company to choose you.
You’re allowing multiple companies to compete for what you have to offer.
