Mark Zuckerberg on How Much Screen Time His Kids Get
Theo Von recently asked Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg how much screen time he allows his children to have.
Zuckerberg explained that his approach is different for each child. Rather than completely restricting technology, he wants his children to become comfortable and knowledgeable with it.
“I actually want them to be fluent with this stuff,” Zuckerberg said, explaining that he wants his children to learn skills such as coding and how to use technology.
He also believes that understanding technology is increasingly important because so much social interaction now takes place online. According to Zuckerberg, children need to learn the social norms and expectations that come with communicating digitally.
However, that does not mean his children have unrestricted access to social media. Zuckerberg said they are still too young for traditional social media platforms, but they do use Messenger Kids to communicate with friends.
He explained that the family allows them to video chat and message friends while monitoring who they are communicating with.
Zuckerberg’s approach reflects a broader debate among parents: Should children be completely shielded from technology, or should they learn how to use it responsibly from an early age?
For Zuckerberg, the answer appears to be a balance—limit access to age-inappropriate platforms while allowing children to develop technological skills and learn how to socialize in an increasingly digital world.
