At least four people were killed Saturday morning, August 8, when a helicopter crashed in a heavily wooded area near Vista Chinesa in Rio de Janeiro’s Alto da Boa Vista. The victims were identified as pilot Alessandro Rocha and three Colombian tourists from the same family: Rocío Cubillos, Sofia Murillo, and Wendy Manrique.
Firefighters were alerted at 11:11 a.m., and an Air Operations Group located the wreckage of the Robinson R44 helicopter, operated by Voos Rio Panorâmicos e Serviços Aeronáuticos. Because the crash site is located on steep and difficult terrain, specialized rescue teams were sent in to search the area and determine whether there were any additional victims. There were no survivors.
