Indiana Fever vs. Las Vegas Aces Recap

A’ja Wilson was the MVP and the clutch player of the game. She dominated on both ends of the floor and proved why she’s one of the best players in the WNBA.

Basketball is a game of runs. The Aces led by nine, the Fever led by 20, but Las Vegas never stopped fighting.

The Fever won the battle in field goal percentage, three-point percentage, and free throw percentage. However, the Aces had more assists, a slight edge in points in the paint, and scored 22 points off Indiana’s 22 turnovers. Against a team like Las Vegas, that’s the difference.

There were some questionable calls, especially Caitlin Clark’s challenged foul on A’ja Wilson and the final blocked shot by Wilson that some believed included body contact. I don’t think those calls decided the game. The turnovers did.

Aliyah Boston’s foul trouble was another key factor. It allowed the Aces to attack her defensively, especially A’ja Wilson, who took full advantage.

Caitlin Clark struggled for much of the game, committed several turnovers, and missed important free throws. She also hit two huge three-pointers late to help keep Indiana in the game.

I also don’t think the Fever made the right defensive adjustments. The Aces repeatedly attacked Clark’s matchup, and Indiana didn’t provide enough help defense.

Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young combined for 59 points, while Clark, Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell combined for 69. Mitchell carried the Fever offensively for most of the night.

Indiana also got very little from its bench. Lexie Hull came in to give Clark a break and help defensively, but the Aces still got clutch three-pointers from Chelsea Gray, including the shot that forced overtime and another that helped seal the win.

The Fever shot well enough to win, but the turnovers, Boston’s foul trouble, missed free throws, lack of defensive adjustments, and limited bench production were too much to overcome. A’ja Wilson was the difference-maker and the true MVP of the game.
