TBT Suspends Marcus Keene Indefinitely After Postgame Brawl Injures JHX Hoops Content Creator
The Basketball Tournament (TBT) has indefinitely suspended AfterShocks guard Marcus Keene after he initiated a postgame altercation following Monday night’s game at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita.
What Happened
During JHX Hoops’ on-court celebration of its 64-59 win over the AfterShocks, Keene shoved forward Jacob Hanna as Hanna waved to fans. Hanna’s backward fall sent him into JHX Hoops content creator Maggie Gehring, causing her to suffer multiple facial fractures. The shove sparked a wider scuffle involving players from both alumni teams, as well as fans, before order was restored.
Gehring was treated in the emergency room Monday night.
The Extent of Gehring’s Injuries
Gehring detailed her injuries in an Instagram post Tuesday. According to her account, she suffered:
• A broken nose with multiple fractures — the nasal bones broke in several places rather than a single clean break.
• An open fracture — bone broke through the skin, a more severe injury than a closed fracture that carries a higher infection risk and typically requires more urgent surgical attention.
• A deviated and broken septum — the cartilage and bone dividing the nostrils was displaced, which can affect breathing.
Gehring said she will need follow-up care with an ENT specialist and likely a cosmetic surgeon, as injuries of this kind often require surgical realignment to restore normal breathing and address her appearance once the swelling subsides. She noted the “full extent” of the damage may not yet be known, suggesting further imaging, such as a CT scan, could be needed to map out all the fracture lines before a treatment plan is finalized.
Keene’s Response
Keene also drew scrutiny for a since-deleted post on X in which he taunted Hanna about the incident. He later issued a written apology addressing the fans, JHX Hoops, the AfterShocks organization, TBT, his teammates, coaches, and family, along with direct apologies to both Gehring and Hanna. In it, Keene took “full responsibility” for his actions, said he let his emotions get the best of him in the heat of the moment, and acknowledged that “accountability begins with owning my mistakes.”

TBT has not set a timetable for reinstating Keene. Both the AfterShocks organization and Wichita State issued statements distancing themselves from the violence, apologizing to fans and to JHX Hoops, and pledging to move forward in a manner consistent with their organizations’ valu
