According to ABC News, the final night of Jay-Z’s three-show concert series at Yankee Stadium was disrupted after a large crowd reportedly pushed past security, prompting officials to temporarily place the stadium on lockdown. No one was allowed to enter or leave for a period of time.

The incident left thousands of fans waiting outside for hours despite holding valid tickets. Many said they were unable to get into the venue after the scheduled 8 p.m. start, and one attendee told CBS New York she arrived around 8:15 p.m. to find the gates closed with no staff directing the crowd. The concert had still not started by 10:30 p.m., with organizers asking fans to remain patient as they worked to safely admit everyone.

The disruption came during an otherwise historic weekend. Saturday’s performance set a new Yankee Stadium attendance record with nearly 46,000 tickets sold, marking the second consecutive night the venue broke its concert attendance record. The three-show run celebrated the 30th anniversary of Jay-Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint, with appearances by Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Nas, and Eminem.

Jay-Z’s marathon finale concert at Yankee Stadium in New York concluded just before 3:00 a.m. ET, capping off a chaotic night that began with a major security failure at the venue’s gates.

The show, the last of a three-night stand in the Bronx, was originally scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. Instead, the rapper did not take the stage until about 12:20 a.m., a delay of more than four hours. Fans described scenes of chaos at the gates. One attendee, Rosalynn Glover, said security was overwhelmed at multiple entrances and that staff seemed to mock ticket-holders stuck outside rather than help them. Fans were eventually let back inside beginning around 10 p.m. through a slow, methodical screening process, with heightened security at every entrance for the rest of the night. ABC7 New York

When Jay-Z finally emerged, he apologized to the crowd, explaining he’d held off out of concern people could get trampled in the crush. Despite the rough start, he delivered on the moment: the finale featured surprise appearances from Beyoncé, Rihanna, Usher, Fat Joe, Jeezy, Pusha T, Pharrell and Jadakiss, ABC7 New York with Forbes also noting sets from Teyana Taylor and Jermaine Dupri.
