Multiple People Injured in Chaotic Overnight Shooting Near East Broad Street in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A large police response unfolded overnight near East Broad Street and Union Street after reports of multiple shootings and a stabbing in the area, where hundreds of people were leaving nearby nightlife establishments.

According to emergency dispatch communications, officers responded to a chaotic scene involving an estimated 200 people exiting Lounge on Lawrence Street, with crowds spilling into parking lots along East Broad Street.

Investigators located approximately 40 additional shell casings in a parking lot, prompting officers to secure the crime scene as evidence continued to be discovered.

First responders treated multiple victims at several nearby locations. Dispatch traffic indicates at least three gunshot victims and one stabbing victim required medical attention, with ambulances transporting the injured to local hospitals. Fire personnel also staged additional medical resources in case more victims were located.

As officers searched the area, additional reports came in of another person suffering a gunshot wound in a nearby park. Police also received reports of bullet holes striking apartment buildings along Union Street, raising concerns that gunfire had entered occupied residences.

During the investigation, officers detained multiple individuals and recovered at least one handgun. Witnesses provided investigators with a possible suspect description of a Black male wearing a white T-shirt, black jeans, and dreadlocks. Police also searched for a gray Toyota Corolla with Illinois license plates believed to be connected to the investigation.

The scene remained highly active as officers requested additional city, county, and state law enforcement resources to assist with crowd control, securing evidence, clearing nearby apartment buildings, and searching for suspects.

Some 911 callers initially reported hearing what they believed were fireworks, while others described numerous gunshots in the area. Authorities continued working to determine the full sequence of events.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not yet released additional information regarding arrests, the condition of the victims, or a motive for the violence.
