The sugar that became Domino Sugar was originally produced using enslaved labor on plantations. Enslaved people were forced to plant, harvest, and process sugarcane under brutal conditions. The raw sugar they produced was then shipped to refineries like the one that became Domino, where it was processed and sold, letting the company profit from that labor.
