Spike Lee Says He Has “Nothing to Say” About the Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger

Spike Lee was recently asked about the proposed Paramount-Warner Bros. merger, but the legendary filmmaker didn’t have much to say about the deal.

At the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Gala in Los Angeles, Lee was asked about the Warner Bros. situation.

Reporter: “But the Warner Brothers thing?”

Spike Lee: “Yeah.”

“I ain’t got nothing to say about that. I gotta make some more movies. If you know what I’m talking about.”

Lee’s response comes with some history. He directed Malcolm X (1992) for Warner Bros., a production that became notoriously difficult as the film’s budget grew. Warner Bros. temporarily halted production over escalating costs, and Lee ultimately helped secure additional financing to complete the movie.

More than three decades later, Warner Bros. and Paramount are once again connected through a major corporate deal—this time, Lee’s focus appears to be on what he has always done: making movies.

“I gotta make some more movies.”

That may have been as much of an answer as Lee wanted to give about the merger.
