Millennials entered the workforce during a major shift in how people worked. Unlike previous generations, many were expected to juggle emails, phone calls, walk-ins, meetings, projects and their regular job duties—all at the same time.
For many Baby Boomers, the traditional workday was more predictable: clock in, do the job, take lunch, take a break, finish the shift and go home.
Millennials often faced a completely different reality. An overflowing inbox could feel like a second job. Phone calls became another task, walk-ins interrupted scheduled work, and unexpected responsibilities appeared throughout the day.
That constant juggling may help explain why burnout became such a major conversation among Millennials. It wasn’t always about not wanting to work. Sometimes, it was about being expected to do five jobs at once.
