Sara Duffey — known online as Sara Gilson and to her TikTok following as Mrs.Gilson was allegedly shot and killed by her estranged husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, in an apparent murder-suicide Thursday night, July 23, in Owasso, Oklahoma, according to the Owasso Police Department.
What Happened
Police say the shooting was discovered after a neighbor called 911 when the Duffeys’ son came to her home asking for help. Investigators believe Shawn Duffey allegedly shot and killed Sara before turning the gun on himself. Sara was pronounced dead at the scene with head wound; Shawn was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.
Protective Orders
Sara had obtained a protective order against her husband the previous month, which police say he violated the night of the shooting. According to court records, that order stemmed from allegations that Shawn — a youth girls’ basketball coach in the area — had been caught kissing a child on a team he coached. The order claimed that after being confronted, he threatened suicide and fled. The child’s mother separately filed her own protective order, alleging Shawn had sent inappropriate messages to her daughter and paid her to stay quiet.
Court records also show Sara had sought protective orders against Shawn in 2021, though those were dismissed after she did not appear at the scheduled hearings. The June 2026 order was extended on June 23 and was set to remain in effect through August 24.
Who She Was
Sara worked as a hairstylist and had built a following on TikTok, where she shared lifestyle content and promoted clothing and jewelry. Family and friends describe her as a devoted mother whose children were the center of her life. Her niece, Colbi Manry, told NewsOn6 that Sara would “do absolutely anything for her kids” and was remembered as a “fierce, loving mom.”
Just under two weeks before her death, Sara posted a TikTok referencing her marriage, joking: “Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a [predator].”
Community Response
A candlelight vigil was held in Sara’s memory at Morrow Elementary School in Collinsville. Family members have set up support for her children in the wake of the tragedy.
