Rochester, New York, has experienced at least two publicly reported machete attacks in 2026, highlighting a pair of violent incidents involving the weapon. On June 22, a 42-year-old man suffered a traumatic injury when his hand was severed during an attack near Clifford and Joseph Avenues. Less than a month later, on July 17, a 16-year-old girl was seriously injured in a machete attack on St. Paul Street near Avenue A. She sustained severe lacerations, underwent emergency surgery, and is expected to recover. Police detained a suspect at the scene and said the incident was not believed to be random.
