A viral clip is making the rounds online featuring LaMelo Ball and his brother LiAngelo addressing questions about their parents, LaVar and Tina Ball, and the state of their marriage.
What LaMelo Said
According to the clip, LaVar had previously told a reporter that he and his wife were no longer together, offering little explanation beyond saying people sometimes grow apart. That vague comment left room for online speculation, with some framing the situation as though Tina had simply walked away from LaVar during a difficult stretch involving his health issues.
LaMelo pushed back on that narrative. He made clear he loves both of his parents, but said the story circulating publicly doesn’t reflect what actually happened. Without going into specifics, he indicated his mother didn’t want to leave and was essentially pushed into the decision — one he says he supported and helped facilitate. He added that she’s doing well now, that his father is doing well too, and that although his parents no longer have a relationship with each other, he stays close with both. He was firm that his mother wasn’t in the wrong, and that the idea she left because of his father’s medical struggles isn’t accurate.
He closed by crediting both parents for how he and his siblings were raised, acknowledging simply that the marriage didn’t work out.
LiAngelo’s Perspective
LiAngelo backed up his brother’s comments, adding a broader point about how much the children may not know. He noted that both LaVar and Tina likely have information and context about the relationship that their kids simply don’t have access to — and that in most cases, when two people share their sides of a story, neither version alone is the full truth. The reality, he suggested, usually sits somewhere between both perspectives.
He also reflected more generally on marriage and how people change over the years — pointing out that whoever a couple becomes over a long relationship, medical challenges, and life’s ups and downs isn’t necessarily who they started out as. In his view, a neutral third party, like a counselor, would be better positioned than the kids to sort out how much responsibility each parent bears. As he put it, in any divorce there’s blame to go around, but a marriage is built — and ends — because of two people.
The Bottom Line
Both brothers agree on the core facts: LaVar and Tina Ball are no longer together, both are doing well individually, and both sons say they remain close with each parent. What they’re pushing back on is the public narrative that assigns blame in a way they say doesn’t reflect the full picture.
